Don’t Let Poor Ventilation Ruin Your New Roof
Asphalt shingles today are manufactured using more fiberglass and less asphalt than even ten years ago. Today’s shingles are better in many ways, but they can’t withstand the excessive heat caused by the older attic ventilation standards, which were probably used to build your home.
Many homes built even ten years ago were designed with limited attic ventilation, which is why attics are often unbearably hot, especially during the summer. But a hot attic can actually cause the underside of your modern asphalt shingle roof to melt, voiding that great warranty you were promised!
Before you hire anyone to install asphalt shingles on your roof, make sure they provide you with detailed ventilation calculations and findings from both an attic and roof walk inspection.
