“It is a special honor to be an MBIA Award of Excellence winner!” said Daren Bowen, Brothers Senior Vice President of Remodeling. “Being recognized and judged by your peers makes this an incredible award and one that we are super proud of!”
In this project, the Brothers team transformed a 544 square foot 1800s farmhouse into a modern 5,400 square foot home while retaining key details that kept the space authentic. The new home includes a first-floor owner’s suite, walk-in pantry and food prep area, brick floor, soapstone countertops, and more. We retained the original floor and the ceiling with exposed rafters to keep the farmhouse charm.
But no project of this size is without its challenges. For example, the existing basement was 7 feet deep, but the new basement needed to be 10 feet deep. The Brothers team had to underpin the existing foundation to make the project work. The homeowners also wanted to retain the original staircase, but it didn’t fit in the new design. We ended up keeping the staircase intact but relocating it so that it would fit the new house.
“These award-winning projects are shining examples of the talent and superior craftsmanship of our members,” said Lori Graf, CEO of the Association. “The projects range from small bathroom remodels to whole-house custom construction and we are proud to showcase the work of our remodelers and custom builders,” she added.
Our team of professional designers, Field Quality Managers, and master tradespeople put their all into this project, and we are so proud that their hard work is being recognized. At Brothers, we approach every project, whether it is a simple repair or a total home remodel like this one, with the same honesty, attention to detail, and high-quality craftsmanship that Marylanders have come to expect from us.
